It is with great pride that the Montreal Barbarians Rugby Club announce one of our own is running for our district’s council seat in the upcoming municipal elections on November 7th 2021.
Anastasia Assimakopoulos has been a valued club member since 2006 when she joined the Barbarians. Both on and off the field, she has exemplified the values of sportsmanship, team building and commitment. To many of us, Anastasia is a friend, mentor and fellow volunteer.
In 2008, Anastasia first joined the club committee as Women’s Fixtures Representative. As such, she was responsible for ensuring field times and locations were accurate and that referees, opponents and fans were aware how and where games would take place. She was the intermediary, and negotiatorwhere many important last-minute changes would be made. She never let us down.
Anastasia was a key member in our women’s side rebuilding from 2010-2012, as Women’s Vice-President. She was a fierce advocate for the Montreal Barbarians women’s team, both at Club Committee meetings, and at the Quebec Rugby Federation. Her outside-the-box thinking and unwavering belief in us led to unimaginable success both on the field and off, fostering a community among our members.
From 2012 to 2015 Anastasia was President of the Montreal Barbarians. She always found time to balance her studies and family with her commitment to the club. She attended regular meetings at the Quebec Rugby Federation voting on policies and advocating for our club. She also worked closely with the city of DDO’s parks department, attending field meetings and communicating regularly to ensure our continued field use for 4 senior teams as well as a successful junior program.
We are incredibly grateful for her contributions to the club and look forward to seeing her in action as City Councilor at Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
